NO STUDENT IS TO BE TURNED AWAY

Instead it is our job as an organization to deepen our training so that any student wanting to participate can do so. At BAMD it is in alignment with our core values to find a place for every student.

WE REGISTER STUDENTS INTO 3 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES:

INDEPENDANT

Students who do not require individual support

  • Students who attend BAMD classes on public transport or via parents/ caregivers and who do not require individual support from the teacher or BAMD volunteers to stay engaged, responsive and participating. These students are able to use washroom facilities independently, take water breaks without supervision, make responsible decisions for their wellbeing, communicate directly with their parents/caretakers, use public transport and manage their personal belongings independently.

SUPPORTED

Students who require support with travel and/or in class engagement & participation

  •  Students who attend BAMD classes via parents/caregivers who require the support of BAMD volunteers. These students need individual encouragement to stay engaged with the class activities but do not need extra support in the way of hygiene, use of washroom, ability to take water breaks, managing personal items etc.

HIGH NEEDS

Students who require additional individualized support inside & outside the classroom

  • Students who attend BAMD classes via parents / caregivers and require additional support in the way of an individual support worker, parent or agreed upon BAMD volunteer. These students need extra support with using the washroom, cleaning up after themselves, engaging in class activities, staying within the dance studio, maintaining focus, understanding class etiquette, taking water breaks, moving around, managing personal items etc.

Provide more information on your needs and support when you register for a BAMD class.

YOU CAN TALK DISABILITY WITH US!

As non-disabled people, it’s crucial to have a space where you can ask questions, express concerns and learn without the fear of being “cancelled”.

We have created multiple spaces to allow this.
